“A Poison of the Blood”

In "A Poison of the Blood," a desperate criminal named Blackie tries to outwit his former victim, Larson, in a Haitian village where the dead are said to walk. When Blackie attempts to summon a zombie to kill Larson, he unwittingly raises the very corpse Larson had controlled—only now the undead creature turns on its summoner, leaving Blackie at the mercy of his own dark magic. The story unfolds with chilling tension, drawn with striking detail by Tony DiPreta, and features a haunting cover by Boris Vallejo.

In a Haitian village, a criminal named Blackie becomes afraid for his life when a man named Larson he framed for a crime has learned how to raise the dead and control the reanimated corpses as zombies. Also learning how to raise the dead he tricks Larson into meeting him in the grave yard and tries to raise a zombie to kill Larson. But to Blackie's horror, he has risen the zombie that Larson previously raised himself. Instead of following Blackie's orders, the zombie turns on his would be master, with Larson watching in glee at his enemies fate.
