Zack Davisson

Zack Davisson (born August 15, 1972) is an American writer, translator, and folklorist best known for bringing classic and contemporary Japanese manga to English-speaking audiences. He was born in the United States and has built a career bridging Japanese pop culture and folklore with Western readers. Davisson's path into comics began with his deep interest in Japanese ghost stories and yokai, leading to his first book, *Yurei: The Japanese Ghost* (2015). He is particularly recognized for translating the works of legendary manga artists Shigeru Mizuki, Leiji Matsumoto, Go Nagai, Satoshi Kon, and Gou Tanabe. His most credited translation work includes *Shigeru Mizuki's Kitaro*, *Showa: A History of Japan*, *Devilman G*, *Queen Emeraldas*, *Demon Days*, and *Cutie Honey a Go Go!*. Davisson has cited writer Lafcadio Hearn as a key inspiration. Active from 2014 to 2025, he has been credited as writer on 21 issues.
