What you’re looking at
This page combines book reviews with a vintage advertisement for Ingram's Shaving Cream. **Book Reviews (Left Column):** The text discusses Agatha Christie's mystery novel *The Seven Dials Mystery* and Mary Desti's biographical work *The Untold Story* about dancer Isadora Duncan. The reviewer offers light commentary on mystery conventions—noting that readers enjoy guessing the culprit among suspicious characters. **Small Cartoons:** Two brief visual gags appear: one depicts someone discussing overnight cases; another shows a character picking up a cigarette butt, joking about maintaining his figure by reaching for Lucky cigarettes "instead of a sweet." **Advertisement (Right Side):** The dominant content is an Ingram's Shaving Cream advertisement featuring a man being shaved and the tagline "Never mind your Whiskers, think about your Face." The ad emphasizes the cream's cooling properties and multi-purpose benefits (shaving cream, lotion, and face freshener). A coupon offers "7 Cool Ingram Shaves Free"—a common direct-mail marketing strategy of that era. The page reflects 1920s-era advertising and consumer culture.

where there are no tabloid: because most of the papers are that way, any- way. eee Tue Seven Diats Mystery (Dodd, Meud). by Agatha Christie is good, clean fun for the tired bank president and others who devour mystery stories on a quantity basis, \ chap (English) is bumped off at a house party (also English), another | is shot in a roadway (the whole thing is English, as a matter of fact) and it begins to look bad for the secret for- mula until the flower of the nobility rallies round the jolly old secret service to save old England for the American mystery fans, Here is your chance to try out the good old scheme of picking out the least. suspicious character and _ nailing the dastardly crime on his bowler. The only trouble is in finding the least suspicious character. There are so many of them in The Seven Dials Mystery. eee Tut Untorn Story (Liveright), by Mary Desti, is another chapter of the private life of Isadora Duncan. Like the book by Irma Duncan and Alan Ross Macdougall, it recounts the events leading up to the tragedy of the Dun- can’s death, I will make no comparisons of the two books. Both are sincere, both are fragmentary, neither has the power and majesty of the original. But they are all we have, and if they lack perspective, so do we. Those who read and liked “My Life” will want to read the sequels. Those who didn’t, won't “Have you any overnight cases?” “Yes, ma’m—plenty.” “Give me seven then, I'll be gone at least a week.” Bust (picking up cigarette butt on the street) “That's how I keep my figure. Bill. Reach for a Lucky in- stead of a sweet.” Mr. Harold Van Schlurman—at left —believes he must have made a mistake in trying to introduce the fiving tackle in ping-pong. | Coot Incram shaves are yours @ forthe asking!
