“To Win Is to Lose!”

In "To Win Is to Lose!", Aqualad wakes from injury with fragmented memories, convinced he must rescue Mera from the Sea Sorcerers—unaware Aquaman is already searching for her elsewhere. As he’s captured by a warrior race and forced into an undersea arena battle, Aquaman encounters towering sea giants and a surface scientist studying them, while Atlantis trembles under a sudden sea quake. Written by Steve Skeates and illustrated with dynamic precision by Jim Aparo, with a striking cover by Nick Cardy, this 1969 DC classic blends suspense and underwater intrigue.

Aqualad recovers from his injuries, but has partial amnesia and believes that he must help Aquaman rescue Mera from the Sea Sorcerers, not recalling that Aquaman is currently searching elsewhere for Mera. During his search, he is captured by a race of sea creatures who force him to battle their champion in an arena. Meanwhile, Aquaman encounters a race of undersea giants and a surface man who studies them. Back in Atlantis, a sea quake strikes the city.
