“The Potent Polka”

In "The Potent Polka," Jughead’s scheme to guarantee Veronica’s victory in a Riverdale beauty contest takes a hilarious turn when both Betty and Veronica set their sights on the same polka-dot bathing suit. With Archie caught in the middle, a series of mistaken persuasions leads to an unexpected outcome—though not quite the one anyone expected. George Frese handles both art and inks for the story, while Bob Montana’s iconic cover captures the playful chaos of the moment.

After Jughead is asked to round up six Riverdale girls for a beauty contest, he tells Archie to have Veronica compete while he gathers five homely girls so that Veronica will be a shoo-in. Unfortunately, Betty also plans to enter, and Veronica and Betty compete over a polka dot bathing suit. While convincing Betty not to buy the suit, Archie accidentally convinces Veronica of the same thing, but the suit wearer ends up winning the contest.
