“Book One: I Shall Become...”

In "Book One: I Shall Become...", Bruce Wayne grapples with the blurred line between justice and obsession as he and the mysterious Bat Creature take on Gotham’s most elusive criminals. Written by Kurt Busiek and brought to life with striking, moody art by John Paul Leon—whose work defines both the interior and the cover—the story deepens with a haunting revelation about Bruce’s past and the enigmatic presence at his side. As a trail of political corruption unfolds, the question isn’t just who they’re hunting, but what the Bat Creature truly represents.

Bruce and the Bat Creature continue to fight crime, but Bruce grows frustrated when not all crimes are resolved neatly. Investigating the origin of the Bat Creature, Bruce learns that he had a twin brother Thomas who was stillborn, and believes that the Bat Creature is the spirit of Thomas looking out for Bruce. Learning that Bruce has a connection to the Bat Creature, Hoover points Bruce in the direction of criminals the police have not been able to find evidence on for the Bat Creature to go after. When Hoover asks them to investigate political corruption, dirty secrets are exposed.
