In "Fire Above, Thunder Below," the Defenders face a dire threat as the Wayfinder breaches dimensions, forcing them to rely on the Red Raven and Sky Island to close the rift. With the tide turning, they turn their attention to aiding the Sub-Mariner—only to be pulled away once more by the Curse, this time as Hell-Eyes looms over Earth. Determined to act, the team sets out to find the Silver Surfer before their next move. The Defenders hold off the Wayfinder until the Red Raven can use Sky Island to force them back into their home dimension and seal off the rift. The Defenders then go to help Sub-Mariner win his throne back but are again snatched away by the Curse when Hell-Eyes threatens the earth. They decide to search out the Silver Surfer for assistance before they again try to help Sub-Mariner win back his throne.
