Frontline Combat #10
In "A Baby!", Harvey Kurtzman delivers a sharp, wry wartime tale from the front lines of Her Majesty's Army in India, where Corporal Tubridy’s patience finally snaps during bayonet drills. With a mix of deadpan humor and vivid detail, the story unfolds as Tubridy steps in to demonstrate the Haymaker's Lift—then launches into a memory of a tense drum call during a past campaign. Rendered with Kurtzman’s signature precision and brought to life by Marie Severin’s crisp coloring, this 1953 EC classic captures military absurdity with a touch of melancholy. The cover, by John Severin and Bill Elder, sets the tone with its stark, expressive style.

Corporal Tubridy, of Her Majesty's Army in India, sat patiently watching new recruits engaging in bayonet drills after previously trying to teach them the proper use of the Martini rifle at the firing range the day before. Taking no more, he jumped to his feet, grabbed a bayoneted rifle and properly showed the raw recruits the Haymaker's Lift, which could lift an enemy soldier right off his feet. Then he began to relate one of his stories about his many campaigns in the service, including his story of drumming recall of his company during an attack.
