About the series
Harvey Kurtzman and a stable of EC’s finest artists—including Wally Wood, John Severin, and Jack Davis—brought a gritty, unglamorous realism to war comics with Frontline Combat (1951–1954). Over its fifteen-issue run, the series eschewed jingoism for harrowing, human-scale stories of soldiers on the ground, often written by Kurtzman himself or Jerry De Fuccio. It remains a landmark for its mature, anti-war perspective and its influence on the war genre in comics.
