“Dreadnoks on the Loose!”

In "Dreadnoks on the Loose!", the G.I. Joe team takes a rare furlough to California for some surfing—until they intercept a wild chase involving the Dreadnoks and Zartan’s new holographic motorcycle. As the chaos unfolds, Zartan uses his signature deception, disguising a chopper as a bus to snatch two of the Joes, while a mysterious old lady vanishes after a landing in Springfield, leaving behind only a discarded disguise. Written by Larry Hama and illustrated by Rod Whigham, Mark Bright, Bob Camp, and Larry Hama, with inks by Andy Mushynsky and Mike Esposito, colors by George Roussos, and letters by Rick Parker, the issue’s cover by John Byrne captures the high-stakes action.

Three Joes are off to California on furlough to surf when they run across three of the Dreadnoks taking a joy ride on Zartan's new holographic motorcycle, which is damaged in the scuffle. Zartan later picks up two of them in a transport chopper holographically disguised as a bus, with Buzzer captured by the Joes, after being told of their joyride by Bludd and the Baroness. The old lady Zartan picks up as a passenger mysteriously disappears after the chopper lands back in Springfield before she can be killed, but it was a disguise as the disguise was discarded.
