In "Bushwhacked Romance," Polly Garrett rides out of town to meet the Masked Raider, the man she has admired, only to be ambushed by bushwhackers; the Raider and his master ride to her rescue. In "Shooting Sam Smith," a first-person narrator tells of a case of mistaken identity when he encounters a man claiming to be the notorious outlaw Shooting Sam Smith from sixty years prior; after a tense confrontation involving guns and a crowd, the narrator discovers the man is actually someone else entirely, prompting him and a banker to visit the sheriff to investigate the mystery.
The Masked Raider races to rescue Talon and White Star after learning they’ve been captured by rustlers, only to find himself trapped in a web of deception when Sheriff Garrett and rancher Claude Railton appear to be working together. As he uncovers clues pointing to Railton’s true identity as a rustler, the Masked Raider must outwit both the sheriff and his men before the prisoners are moved — all while keeping his own identity hidden.
When Polly Garrett sets out to meet her hero, the Masked Raider, she stumbles upon a gang of bushwhackers instead—only to find the masked man is more than just a legend. As the Masked Raider confronts the outlaws, including the terrified Pip Younger, Polly must grapple with the truth behind the man she admired. The tension builds as more of the Younger brothers close in, and the Masked Raider must protect her while unraveling a dangerous web of secrets.
In the harsh frontier of Outlaw Territory, Texas Ranger Con Reardon, weakened by swamp fever, faces off against the outlaw Hub Downes, who threatens to kill him. Though outnumbered and near death, Reardon refuses to surrender, and when a reluctant Downes hesitates, a surprising alliance forms as downed outlaws, including the fugitive Charlie and the unlikely hero Jock, rally to save the ranger’s life.
In the courtroom, the Masked Raider, disguised as lawyer Les Wilcox, exposes Hayes Albert as the true rustler after uncovering fresh evidence, clearing Mike Kincaid and sending Albert to prison—only for Albert to escape during the ensuing chaos. As a posse forms to recapture him, Les Wilcox races to the secret cave where Albert has taken refuge, confronting him with the help of his loyal horse White Star and the eagle Talon. The story builds toward a tense showdown, leaving the outcome of the final confrontation open.
The Masked Raider races against Ed Loftus in a high-stakes bet orchestrated by Milton Hart, who plans to kill the Raider by rigging the finish line with dynamite. As the Raider nears victory, he spots the trap and narrowly avoids it, exposing Hart’s scheme just as the townspeople close in.
