Eichelberger's campaign against Japanese-backed Cossack raiders in New Guinea, culminating in his assignment to West Point in 1941 before the Pearl Harbor attack; "The Australian Sparrows," depicting two Australian commandos on a dangerous mission behind enemy lines who discover a buried auto battery and make contact with headquarters, learning their unit (the "Sparrows") is thought destroyed but is actually intact and needs ammunition; and a story about Harriet Beecher Stowe, who conceived the idea for "Uncle Tom's Cabin" in a church, wrote it to expose the cruelties of slavery, and saw the book become a bestseller that raised funds for freedom and influenced public opinion against slavery.
