Tales to Astonish #68
In "Peril from the Long-Dead Past!", the Hulk returns to gamma base after narrowly escaping a deadly fall, only to be jailed once more—this time by the very government he’s tried to protect. Written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Jack Kirby, with inks by Mickey Demeo and letters by Artie Simek, this 1965 issue sees Bruce Banner and Colonel Talbot sent back to Astra Island to test the absorbatron, where a new threat emerges in the form of the Leader’s army of Humanoids. The cover, a dynamic collaboration by Jack Kirby, Bob Powell, and Vince Colletta, captures the tension of a battle on the edge of the unknown.

Saving Talbot and himself from plunging to their deaths, the Hulk decides he is tired of world travel and leaps home. Waking up in gamma base, Bruce is once again jailed as a traitor and the president once again sets him free (Rick told the commander in chief the secret of the Hulk a few issues ago). Banner and Talbot are once again sent to Astra Island to continue a test of the absorbatron but the Leader sends an army of Humanoids who finally succeed in capturing the Hulk and the absorbatron.
