The Carl Barks Library #6
In "Maharajah Donald," Carl Barks crafts a delightfully absurd adventure where Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s humble pencil stub spirals into a cross-continental journey to India, leaving Donald to claim the prize ticket—only to find his nephews stowaway on the same steamship. With the help of the eccentric Maharajah of Hoopadoola, Donald must navigate a seemingly harmless favor involving a sacred elephant and a perilous river crossing, all drawn with Barks’ signature wit and intricate storytelling. The story, written and illustrated by Carl Barks, features his distinctive artwork on both the interior and cover, with the cover pencils and inks also by Barks.

Starting with a mere pencil stub, and through an unlikely series of events, Huey, Dewey, and Louie trade-up to a steamship ticket to India, which Donald gloms for himself forcing the boys to stow away on the very same ship. Aboard ship and facing consequences for unknowingly harboring his stowaway nephews, Donald meets the wealthy Maharajah of Hoopadoola, who offers to resolve the Ducks' matters with the steamship line for a favor in return. The favor? Riding an old, gentle, sacred elephant across a narrow river to a neighboring kingdom. What possible harm could there be in such a gesture?
