Sion confronts the Next, wanting to return them, but they flee back to Earth, and find Superman waking up from his fight with Sion. Sion tracks them down, but they teleport away again, playing cat and mouse with Sion. Superman finally gets Metron's message. Sion finds them one more time, but Superman and the Next use his "cage" against him, trapping Sion. They realize that the rip in the continuum has created a new being, the Oblivion Shadow, one that threatens all life.
