“For the Throne of Zamboula”

In "For the Throne of Zamboula," Conan finds himself trapped in the treacherous court of Zamboula, where a dying wizard's cursed blade nearly claims him—only to turn on its master. As political chaos erupts, Conan navigates a bloody uprising, watching as power shifts between nobles and rebels, each falling to the lingering curse of a dead sorcerer. Written by Roy Thomas and brought to life with dynamic art by John Buscema and Tony DeZuniga, with cover by Earl Norem, this 1980 Marvel classic delivers the brutal, high-stakes intrigue that defines Conan’s world.

Conan is captured and tortured by Zafra the wizard, but Zafra then dies of his own hand as he tries to kill Conan with an enchanted sword. Conan frees Isparana, but finds himself in the middle of a revolution as the nobleman Balad tries to depose Akter Khan. With contempt, Conan watches Balad killing the unarmed Khan, but Balad dies soon thereafter from Zafra's final enchantment.
