Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1

The issue establishes the in-comics debut of this universe's Nico Minoru as Peter Parker's closest confidant — transplanting the Runaways sorceress into Spider-Man's earliest origin chapter in a way no prior Marvel comic had attempted. It also introduces Silvio Manfredi / Silvermane and the Enforcers as the first antagonists Peter faces in this timeline, and confirms a significant divergence from classic Spider-Man mythology: in this universe, Uncle Ben dies of illness before Peter is even bitten, rather than being killed by a burglar. As an official narrative bridge between an MCU animated series and its print counterpart, the series represents a tighter, story-integrated model of franchise tie-in comics than Marvel had typically produced for its animated properties.

Marvel announced the five-issue limited series in September 2024, with issue #1 hitting shelves on December 11, 2024 — roughly seven weeks before the Disney+ animated series premiered on January 29, 2025. Writer Christos Gage, who had previously written Spider-Man stories for both Marvel Comics and the Insomniac video game series, collaborated closely with show creator Jeff Trammell to ensure the comic interlocked with the animated series; Gage stated they worked together so the comic would 'mesh perfectly with the show,' and Trammell added that the prequel was designed to answer questions viewers would have after watching the first episode, filling a specific gap in that episode's timeline. Art was provided by Eric Gapstur, with colors by Jim Campbell and a main cover by Leonardo Romero; variant covers came from Natacha Bustos and InHyuk Lee, along with a special Marvel Animation variant. The series received a second printing of issue #1 in March 2025, and notably, some panels from the comic were animated and incorporated into the show's own title sequence.
