Marvel announced the five-issue prequel series on November 1, 2024, positioning it explicitly as a bridge between the spider-bite and the 'months later' jump at the opening of the Disney+ animated series. Showrunner Jeff Trammell explained that the comic fills a specific timeline gap from the show's first episode, and noted that further comics could address other gaps in later seasons. Writer Christos Gage and artist Eric Gapstur handled all five issues of the limited run, which was published from December 2024 through April 2025, with issue #2 releasing on January 15, 2025 — two weeks before the animated series itself premiered on Disney+.
