Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #4
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeIssue #4 of this five-part limited series sits at the narrative hinge of the entire prequel — it dramatizes Spider-Man's first true public defeat at the hands of the Enforcers and the resulting collapse of his early reputation, a story beat that comics readers had not seen for this continuity's Peter Parker before. As a tie-in to the MCU's Disney+ animated series, the comic introduced Earth-TRN1450 versions of classic Spider-Man villains — Silvermane, Man Mountain Marko, and the Enforcers — who do not appear in the animated show itself, making the comic the sole canonical place these characters exist in this corner of the multiverse. The issue also continues the first comics appearance of this universe's Nico Minoru (who debuted in issue #1), a character transplanted from Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona's Runaways mythology into the role of Peter Parker's closest ally. Taken together, the issue demonstrates Marvel's expanding strategy of using print comics not merely as promotional accompaniments to animation but as genuine narrative infrastructure that the screen story depends upon.

In September 2024 Marvel announced a five-issue prequel comic titled Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, written by Christos Gage with art by Eric Gapstur, designed to bridge the gap between Peter Parker's spider-bite and the 'months later' jump that opens the Disney+ animated series. Gage worked closely with animated series showrunner Jeff Trammell to ensure the two properties meshed as a single extended story, with Trammell noting that each medium would answer questions raised by the other. Some panels from the comic were even adapted into animated form for the show's own title sequence, cementing the unusually tight production relationship between the two formats.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Released March 26, 2025 (cover-dated May 2025); the fourth chapter of a five-issue limited series set in an alternate MCU timeline (designated Earth-TRN1450 / Earth-86445 across Marvel's own databases).
- Written by Christos Gage, with interior art and inks by Eric Gapstur, colors by Jim Campbell, letters by VC's Joe Caramagna, and a main cover by Leonardo Romero; edited by Jordan D. White.
- Three variant covers were published alongside the standard edition: a Marvel Animation Variant and a Taurin Clarke Variant.
- The issue presents the fallout of Spider-Man's loss to the Enforcers — Montana (Jackson Brice), Fancy Dan (Daniel Brito), and Ox (Raymond Bloch) — acting on orders from Silvermane (Silvio Manfredi) and Man Mountain Marko (Michael Marko); these villains appear exclusively in the comic and are absent from the animated series.
- Nico Minoru — a character originally created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona in Runaways #1 (July 2003) — appears as Peter Parker's key supporting ally; her first appearance in this continuity was in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 (December 2024).
- The series as a whole was conceived as a narrative bridge, filling the timeline gap between Peter's origin scene in the animated show's first episode and the 'months later' portion of the story, with showrunner Jeff Trammell involved in production to ensure continuity.
- The comic is part of Phase Five of the MCU, tying into the same animated continuity as the Disney+ series which premiered January 29, 2025 and won a Children's and Family Emmy Award.
- Silvermane's fictional front company, Silvermane Hair Products for Men, Inc., is established in the comic's continuity as the criminal organization's legitimate-business cover — a detail original to this prequel series.
