About the series
During the mid-1980s, Swedish publisher Semic brought Robert E. Howard’s iconic Cimmerian to a European audience with Conan (1984–1985), a 15-issue series that blended classic American storytelling with striking local covers. Scripted primarily by Roy Thomas—drawing on Howard’s original prose—the interiors were anchored by John Buscema’s dynamic pencils, while Boris Vallejo and Earl Norem contributed some of the series’ most memorable painted covers. This short-lived but visually distinctive run stands as a unique artifact of Conan’s international publishing history, showcasing the barbarian’s enduring appeal beyond the English-language market.
