Joe Madureira — widely known as "Joe Mad" — is an American comic book artist and game developer born in December 1974. He began working in comics in the early 1990s, with catalog credits stretching back to 1992, and quickly made his mark on Marvel's mutant titles. His most celebrated comics work came through a long run on *The Uncanny X-Men*, where his distinctive visual approach drew on both Western artists — particularly Arthur Adams — and the aesthetics of Japanese manga and video games, blending those influences into a kinetic, expressive style that stood apart from mainstream American superhero art of the era. He also contributed to *X-Men* and early work such as *Deadpool: The Circle Chase*. Away from Marvel, Madureira created the creator-owned fantasy-adventure series *Battle Chasers*, which developed a devoted following despite irregular publication. He subsequently moved substantially into game development, founding Vigil Games — the studio responsible for the *Darksiders* franchise — and later Airship Syndicate. Both ventures reflected his longstanding passion for video game aesthetics, a sensibility that had always informed his comics work. His catalog spans nearly 190 credited issues across artist, writer, colorist, and inker roles, remaining active into the mid-2020s.
