About the series
From 1988 to 1998, Marvel’s Excalibur spun its own corner of the X-Men universe across 126 issues, following Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Meggan, and Brian Braddock as they formed a lighthearted, British-flavored team based in London. Chris Claremont launched the series, but it was Alan Davis—both writer and artist for long stretches—who defined its whimsical, adventurous tone, blending superheroics with fantasy and a deep affection for its characters. The book mattered as a playful counterpoint to the X-Men’s grim melodrama, carving out a distinct identity with its mix of heart, humor, and wild, dimension-hopping plots.
