Ben Edlund
Ben Edlund was born on September 20, 1968, in the United States. He is best known as the creator of the satirical superhero the Tick, a character he first developed as a mascot for a comic-book store’s newsletter while still a teenager. Edlund’s path into comics began in the late 1980s, when he self-published the first issue of *The Tick* in 1988. The series, a broad parody of superhero tropes, quickly gained a cult following for its absurdist humor and deadpan delivery. Edlund wrote and drew the early adventures, establishing a signature style that blended exaggerated cartooning with witty, offbeat dialogue. His key collaborators on the title included artists such as John K. Snyder III and writer/artist Tom Root. Beyond the Tick, Edlund created the short-lived series *Paul the Samurai* and contributed to specials like *The Chroma-Tick* and *The Tick's Giant Circus of the Mighty*. He also wrote and drew the *Man-Eating Cow* one-shot. The Tick later expanded into an animated series and a live-action show, with Edlund serving as a writer and producer. He transitioned into television writing for series like *Angel*, *Firefly*, and *Supernatural*. Edlund’s work earned him multiple Eisner Award nominations, and he remains a celebrated figure for his influence on superhero satire.
