About this issue

This issue of Os Bons Romances (The Good Novels), a Portuguese monthly serial publication from December 4, 1911, features a detective serial titled "As Ruínas de Pompeia" (The Ruins of Pompeii), starring the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. The story begins in Naples when Holmes receives an urgent letter from Count Luigi Ventura requesting his assistance in solving the mysterious abduction of his daughter, Countess Ada, from their castle on Capri. A young Neapolitan nobleman was also murdered nearby the same night. Holmes, accompanied by his assistant Harry, travels to Capri to investigate. Upon examining Ada's bedroom, Holmes discovers subtle clues—a pearl and diamond cross, scattered pearls, and traces of blood—that the local police overlooked. The count claims the sealed room and the tower passage remain impenetrable, yet Holmes suspects otherwise.
